Not a narrow beach, flanked by other crowded beaches, nor steps from a beach. Ours is a pristine, sandy beach, broad and deep, and directly on the Caribbean.

Not just rooms, but centrally air-conditioned villas of distinction, with spacious bedrooms and lofts, fully equipped kitchens, 60-channel satellite television, a safe, daily maid service and private terraces facing the sea. You can also pack light; we even wash and dry for our guests, or you can do it yourself, on site.

Not a forgettable pool, but an entire pool environment awarded "best of the best" accolades. Lushly landscaped, the complex has a swim-up and sit-down bar, submerged lounges, a lap area and hot tub. Guests love it and many never leave it.

Not a shared or "by-the-book" island dock, but a broad dock stretching 250 feet into the Caribbean, home to a fully-staffed Activities Center providing information and making arrangements for more than 30 tours and excursions on and off the island, and on the mainland, with pickups by guides right at dockside -- diving, snorkeling and fishing trips definitely included, along with cave tubing, Mayan ruins exploration, catamaran sails, and every conceivable water sport.

Not a so-so restaurant with a limited menu, but an exceptional, just renovated restaurant/sports lounge named The Upper Deck, with dramatic 360-degree views, room service, and three meals a day, seven days a week, served up by a chef who routinely earns as much praise from our guests as our world-class pool environment.

Not a costly rental fee for kayaks (they are free), nor for our bicycles (just a $5 daily rental), nor for access to the internet (a modest access fee; wi-fi is everywhere, with computers also available in the lobby), nor for free volleyball time, nor for free play on our first-class tennis court.

Not an isolated resort far from the "action." We do offer guests privacy and exclusivity, but San Pedro, with its boutiques and craft shops and restaurants and picturesque beachfront bars, is just 15-20 minutes away by bicycle, golf cart (available for rental on site) and water-taxi. Plus, on site, with 48 occupied villas, you'll find lots of conviviality and guest interaction, if you want it.
